The Chicago White Sox addressed the infield in round one of the MLB Draft by selecting Ole Miss shortstop Jacob Gonzalez at No. 15 overall.

Gonzalez helped lead Ole Miss to a national championship in the 2022 season and was ranked the No. 18 overall draft prospect by MLB.com.

Here's a portion of his MLB.com draft profile:

Gonzalez has the bat-to-ball skills and control of the strike zone to be at least a solid hitter, and he has been more consistent in 2023 after hunting home runs too much as a sophomore. With his strength, bat speed and the leverage in his left-handed stroke, he has 25-homer potential. He does a nice job of using the entire field, with most of his over-the-fence power going to his pull side.

While Gonzalez regularly displays below-average speed out of the batter's box, he may be quick enough to stay at shortstop. His instincts and rhythm help his cause at short, where he covers ground with long strides and has solid arm strength.

His selection follows Paul Skenes (No. 1, Pirates), Dylan Crews (No. 2, Nationals), Max Clark (No. 3, Tigers), Wyatt Langford (No. 4, Rangers), Walker Jenkins (No. 5, Twins), Jacob Wilson (No. 6, A's), Rhett Lowder (No. 7, Reds), Blake Mitchell (No. 8, Royals), Chase Dollander (No. 9, Rockies), Noble Meyer (No. 10, Marlins), Nolan Schanuel (No. 11, Angels), Tommy Troy (No. 12, Diamondbacks), Matt Shaw (No. 13, Cubs) and Kyle Teel (No. 14, Red Sox).

At the major league level, the White Sox are 38-54 and in fourth place in the American League Central.
