Cincinnati Reds Rookie Phenom Has the Top Three Spots in This Baseball Leaderboard
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 on Friday night to move to within a 0.5 game in the National League Central race.
The win was fueled by home runs from Jake Fraley and Spencer Steer but also got some fun theatrics from Reds rookie Elly De La Cruz, who continues to wow the baseball world with his tools and skillset.
For instance, De La Cruz hit a triple and got from home to third base in 10.84 seconds. He now has the top three times in that category in baseball this season - and only debuted back in early June.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
fastest home-to-third times in MLB this season:
6/23 Elly De La Cruz: 10.83 sec
6/7 Elly De La Cruz: 10.83 sec
JUST NOW Elly De La Cruz: 10.84 sec
Since coming up, De La Cruz has been a jolt for the Reds. He's hitting .264 through his first 178 at-bats with six home runs, 19 RBI and 17 steals. One of the "toolsiest" players in baseball, he has the great speed, prodigious power and a great throwing arm.
It's not just him, though. Youngsters Andrew Abbott, Will Benson, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Matt McLain and Brandon Williamson have all contributed to this run.
The Reds are 57-48 entering play on Saturday and will take on the Dodgers again at Dodger Stadium. First pitch is 9:10 p.m. ET as Luke Weaver (CIN) pitches against rookie Emmet Sheehan.
Weaver is 2-2 with a 7.20 ERA while Sheehan is 3-1 with a 6.75.
