Cleveland Guardians' Will Brennan Hits Animal with Line Drive on Monday
It's been a weird week for baseballs and animals.
Last week, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen killed a bird while playing catch pregame in Oakland.
On Monday, Cleveland Guardians player Will Brennan singled against the Chicago White Sox, taking out an animal in the vicinity of shortstop.
You can watch the video below, but you do not see the animal get hit, so if you are an animal lover (as I am), you do not see anything.
Awful Announcing put the video out on Twitter, saying:
Cleveland's Will Brennan hit a bird with his line drive single.
"This one actually went by what looked like some sort of deceased animal at shortstop..."- Steve Stone
"They just scooped it out. Oh boy. Well that's too bad."- Jason Benetti
1) We don't actually know if it was a bird or not. Stone makes the comment about this maybe being a member of the rodent family, but since we didn't see anything, we can't be sure at this point.
2) We also don't know if the animal is deceased, despite Stone's comments. We certainly hope not. You could see that Brennan was shaken by the incident.
At the time of this posting, the Guardians lead the White Sox, 1-0, in the top of the seventh inning. Brennan is 1-2 at the plate and is hitting .212 for the season.
For his career, he's a .253 hitter in 146 at-bats.
These two teams will play again on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET.
