Colorado Rockies Deal Veteran Lefty Bullpen Piece to Atlanta Braves
The Colorado Rockies, mired in another losing season, have traded veteran reliever Brad Hand to the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves have been looking to upgrade their overall pitching staff and have made several moves for bullpen help in the last few weeks, this being the latest.
Robert Murray of Fansided had the move on social media:
Trade: The Atlanta Braves are acquiring left-hander Brad Hand from the Colorado Rockies, according to a source familiar with the deal. Alec Barger goes to the Rockies.
The 33-year-old Hand has appeared in 40 games for the Rockies this year, going 0-1 with a 4.54 ERA. He's struck out 41 batters in 35.2 innings so he could be a useful piece for a Braves team that is looking to win the World Series for the second time in three years.
The veteran is in his 13th year in the big leagues with the Marlins, Padres, Guardians, Nationals, Mets, Blue Jays, Phillies and Rockies.
He's got 131 career saves and a lifetime 3.66 ERA.
The Braves enter play on Tuesday as the best team in baseball at 67-37. They lead the National League East by 11.0 games over the second-place Phillies which is the biggest gap between No. 1 and No. 2 in any division.
After losing on Monday, the Braves will taken on the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:20 p.m. ET as the Braves send ace Spencer Strider to the mound against lefty Patrick Sandoval.
Strider is 11-3 while Sandoval is 6-7.
