Seattle Mariners' Coach Set to Interview For Managerial Opening
The San Francisco Giants are making the rounds this week with regards to managerial candidates and interviews.
One of the names on their list is former All-Star and current Seattle Mariners' bullpen coach Stephen Vogt.
We heard that Vogt could be a candidate for managerial openings recently from Jon Morosi of the MLB Network. Vogt is one of several M's coaches that could be up for consideration for jobs, including former big league skipper Manny Acta.
Vogt just joined the Mariners staff this past season but is highly-regarded. He spent 10 years in the big leagues with the A's, Diamondbacks, Rays, Giants, Braves and Brewers. He's a two-time All-Star as well. He only retired after the 2022 season.
Former catchers have often had success transitioning to a managerial post. Joe Girardi, Mike Matheny, Mike Scoscia, and Scott Servais are some examples, just to name a few. They are often praised for how they see the game and can take charge of the whole field, which is why they transition well to the dugout.
Per the MLBTradeRumors article above:
All of the candidates linked to the Giants thus far would also be first-time MLB skippers, so clearly the front office isn’t prioritizing a long resume when considering its next dugout hire.
Vogt was a lifetime .239 hitter with 82 home runs and 313 RBI. He posted a career .707 OPS.
Vogt was drafted in 2007 by the Rays. He was a 12th-round selection.
We will have more information on the Giants' managerial search as it takes shape.
