Derek Jeter Joins Fox Sports MLB Broadcast Team Ahead of 2023 Season
Hours before Sunday's Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, FOX's pregame show announced a major addition to the network, prior to the start of the 2023 Major League Baseball season.
Hall of Fame shortstop and five-time World Series champion Derek Jeter will be joining FOX's MLB team.
Jeter walked on set in front of a large crowd on FOX's Super Bowl pregame show, joining Alex Rodriguez, Kurt Menefee and Michael Strahan.Â
Jeter has not worked on television as an analyst before. He did however have a seven-part docuseries centered around him that aired last summer on ESPN, titled 'The Captain.'
Jeter retired from Major League Baseball following the 2014 season. In 2020, he was voted into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. He is a 14-time All-Star, five-time World Series champion, five-time Gold Glove Award winner, five-time Silver Slugger, the 1996 American League Rookie of the Year, and a World Series MVP, as well as All-Star Game MVP.
Jeter has remained relatively private since his retirement, but is one of the most famous baseball players from his era. He held an ownership stake in the Miami Marlins from September 2017 to February 2022. Jeter is a big time addition to FOX.
FOX has been making moves. The network recently signed newly retired Tom Brady to a ten-year, $375 million contract, which will begin in 2024. Brady will take 2023 off after his retirement, and join the FOX family full-time in 2024. The FOX family got even bigger Sunday.
It remains unclear what specific role Jeter will serve. Will he be an in-game analyst, or a studio analyst? Or both? We'll find out soon enough. Jeter joins former Yankees teammate Alex Rodriguez, who has been working for FOX since the 2016 postseason.
