Derek Jeter Reacts to Tom Brady Retirement on Twitter
Major League Baseball Hall of Fame shortstop Derek Jeter tweeted his support to seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady, who announced his retirement from the sport of football after 23 seasons.
Brady tweeted a short, 53-second video from a beach, announcing his retirement. Brady retired a year ago then un-retired a month later, but he made himself clear: this time, it's for real. He will not play professional football again.
Jeter quote-tweeted Brady's video and added some kind words of his own. His tweet reads, 'Congrats @TomBrady on an unbelievable career. It was fun to watch!'
When he first signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as a free agent, three years ago, Brady reportedly moved in to a house on the Gulf of Mexico that Jeter owned.
Brady, 45, won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. In his first season with the Bucs in 2020, he brought a championship to Tampa Bay.
Like Jeter, Brady will likely be inducted into the Hall of Fame on his first ballot. Brady will be up for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame beginning in 2028.
Jeter was voted in to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in 2020. Despite the fact that Jeter retired over eight years ago, he is only three years older than Brady, which speaks to the incredible longevity of Brady's career.
Brady attended the University of Michigan, which is where Jeter would have attended, had he not signed with the New York Yankees out of high school. Brady himself was a remarkable baseball player, and was selected in the 18th round by the Montreal Expos of the 1995 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, as a catcher. Brady chose football instead. It worked out pretty well for him.
