Minnesota Twins Make Big Decision on Coaching Staff For 2024
The Minnesota Twins, fresh off winning an American League Central title and a wild card series in the MLB playoffs, are planning to bring back their entire coaching staff in 2024.
Per Bobby Nightengale Jr., Twins reporter, on social media:
Also mentioned in the story: The Twins plan to bring back all the coaches on Rocco Baldelli's staff for 2024.
That's not surprising, given that the Twins had success this year, but it is noteworthy because the Twins led all of baseball in strikeouts in 2023.
They also tied for the American League lead in home runs and were second in walks. The story above notes that the team is willing to sacrifice some "whiff" for the power and constant traffic on the bases.
"You want baserunners, and you want balls hit on the barrel, hard," Baldelli said. "That is the goal. That's what we want, those two things, above anything else."
It's also fair to note that Baldelli mentioned the offense should naturally get better in 2024 if the team gets full seasons out of Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis. All three players were on the injured list at points this past season - with Buxton and Lewis missing significant time. Correa played through a foot issue, but slumped to a .230 batting average this year with a .312 on-base percentage.
With the coaching staff resolved for 2024 already, the Twins can focus on getting better through free agency now. First up, trying to lock up their own free agent starter Sonny Gray, who has said how much he loves Minnesota.
