Detroit Tigers' Youngster Could Be on the Verge of Breakout Season as Team Continues to Ascend
As the Detroit Tigers look to continue their ascent in 2024, they could be on the verge of getting a defining season from former top prospect Parker Meadows.
The following comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Meadows went 1-for-3 with a double in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles and is now batting .350 this spring with a 1.131 OPS.
ANALYSIS
Meadows has been on a tear, recording two home runs and two double across eight games this spring. The young outfielder appears to be Detroit's top option in center, and after an up-and-down first 37 games in 2023, Meadows may be ready for a breakout in his first full season at the MLB level in 2024.
Meadows appears set for centerfield while young outfielder Riley Greene is set to shift over to right. The 24-year-old Meadows is a former second-round pick of the Tigers out of the Georgia high school ranks who made his major league debut last year.
Over those 37 games, he hit .240 with three home runs and 13 RBI.
If he does have that breakout season, he'll join Spencer Torkelson and Greene as homegrown position players in that Tigers' lineup. Colt Keith is also expected to break camp with the team.
In addition to these young position players, Detroit worked to solidify its pitching in 2024. They'll get Casey Mize to return to the starting rotation from a year off (injury), and they also signed veterans Jack Flaherty and Kenta Maeda over the course of the offseason.
