Former MVP Says He Hasn't Received Any Contract Offers Yet
After exiting the only organization he's ever known in the Cincinnati Reds this offseason, former MVP Joey Votto has made it clear that he wants to play in 2024.
The only problem is that Votto hasn't received any contract offers yet. He also appears to be going a little stir crazy from that development.
He told the 'Dan Patrick Show' on Friday that he hadn't received offers yet. We have heard his name connected to the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays this offseason, but clearly nothing has materialized.
Per DP Show producer Paul Pabst on social media:
Joey Votto on the @dpshow now. He said he's had a bunch of media offers, but just chatter from MLB teams. No offer...yet.
With Votto's sense of humor and baseball insight, he would undoubtedly make a good personality for some television network but at 40 years old he clearly thinks he has something to offer as a player still.
A lifetime .294 hitter, Votto is one of the more accomplished players of the last 20 years. He's got a .409 on-base percentage lifetime and has hit 356 career home runs. He also owns a pristine resume with six All-Star appearances, a Gold Glove and an MVP award.
He's led the league in on-base percentage in seven separate seasons.
He spent 17 years with the Reds.
He hit .202 last season as he battled injury. Unfortunately, this led him to accumulate just 208 at-bats in the 2023 season.
At this point, Votto's best bet may be waiting for an injury to occur and having a team call him then.
