Luke Voit led Major League Baseball in home runs during the 2020 pandemic-shortened season.

Now? He's going to be looking for a new job.

The slugger has been designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers. This means he'll have seven days to be traded, released or outrighted to the minors. Given his veteran status, being outrighted doesn't seem like an option, so it seems likely that he'll end up a free agent.

It's been a real struggle for Voit this season in Milwaukee. He's played in just 22 games, hitting .221 with a .284 on-base percentage. He didn't hit one home run, only posted three doubles and only had four RBI.

He made his major league debut in 2017 with the St. Louis Cardinals and then got to New York in 2018. He played in 118 games with the 2019 Yankees and hit .263 with 21 homers and 62 RBI before exploding in 2020 for a league-best 22 homers in 56 games. He finished ninth in MVP voting that year.

He was injured most of 2021, missing nearly 100 games and was traded to the Padres before 2022. He hit just .225 there and was dealt to Washington in the Juan Soto trade last summer.

He signed with the Brewers this season and now will need to look for a new option.

The move comes as the Brewers are 28-25 and in first place in the National League Central.

They'll travel to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays on Tuesday. First pitch is 7:07 p.m. ET.
