Former Major League Pitcher David Hess Shares Optimistic Update on His Cancer Battle
Former Baltimore Orioles, Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Hess shared a positive update on Friday on social media regarding his battle with cancer.
He announced that his cancer had returned at the end of May. He previously had been diagnosed with cancer in 2021.
Here are his full comments:
"New update! Some people already know most probably don't. Pathology results showed that the original nodules removed in my surgery were angiosarcoma (which was somewhat expected). They came out with good margins and my lungs look to be cleared out now as we were hoping. Before the major surgery where the tumor comes out, I have to 16 weeks of a less intensive chemo to hopefully clear out anything that could be under the surface that we can't see.
Thank you everyone for the prayers and support! It means the world to us and helps us keep persevering through it all. We are hopeful this is getting close to the final steps in this journey. After all, third time is a charm right?"
The 29-year-old Hess has appeared in 62 games in his major league career with the Orioles, Marlins and Rays.
He spent 2018-2020 in Baltimore and appeared in games in 2021 for both the Marlins and Rays. He pitched in the Rays minor league system in 2022.
He has six career wins lifetime, pitching as both a starter and a reliever.
We are rooting for him to continue to get better and hope to see him back on a big league mound soon!
