Former Miami Marlins GM Kim Ng Speaks on Why She Stepped Down From Position
After stepping down as the General Manager of the Miami Marlins on Monday, Kim Ng has addressed her decision.
Per Tyler Kepner of the New York Times on social media:
Just spoke with Kim Ng, who stepped down as Marlins GM this morning. She said: “Last week, Bruce (Sherman) and I discussed his plan to reshape the Baseball Operations department. In our discussions, it became apparent that we were not completely aligned… 1/3
… on what that should look like and I felt it best to step away. I wish to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Marlins family and its fans for my time in South Florida. This year was a great step forward…2/3
…for the organization, and I will miss working with Skip and his coaches as well as all of the dedicated staff in baseball operations and throughout the front office. They are a very talented group and I wish them great success in the future.” 3/3
The Marlins made the playoffs this year, capturing a wild card in the National League before being swept by the Philadelphia Phillies. They also made the playoffs during the COVID 2020 season.
It's not known yet what Ng's plans will be moving forward. Did she decline the option so she can move onto another organization? The Red Sox, for instance, are still looking for a baseball ops leader. Does she want time off? Does she want to move up to a different front office perch? We will have to wait and see.
