Free Agent Pitcher Gets Incredible Perk if He Signs with Texas Rangers
Free agent pitcher Jordan Montgomery has an incredible offer waiting for him if he signs with the Texas Rangers: free barbecue for life.
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today:
Jordan Montgomery is widely expected to re-sign with the Texas Rangers, but if there was any doubt, Arlington-based Hurtado Barbecue is making sure it will happen.
They have offered Montgomery free barbecue for the rest of his life.
Seriously.
“We’re going to give you free barbecue for life," owner Brandon Hurtado said in a video. “Not a joke, I’m dead serious. Jordan, if you come back and pitch for the Rangers this season, you’ll never pay for Hurtado Barbecue again.”
How can Montgomery possibly resist?
Now, I've never had Hurtado Barbecue, but that's certainly a tough thing to pass up!
Montgomery has been rumored to be going back to Texas this offseason anyways, but a murky financial situation has clouded the waters for the World Champions. Perhaps as they learn more about their television revenue situation, they can get back into the Montgomery business as indicated.
He was an integral part of the Rangers winning their first World Series title in 2023, going 4-2 in the regular season in 11 starts with a 2.79 ERA. He was traded to Texas at the trade deadline from the St. Louis Cardinals.
All in all, he's pitched seven years in the big leagues with the New York Yankees, Cardinals and Rangers. He's 38-34 with a 3.68 lifetime ERA.
He's widely seen as the best remaining free agent pitcher available, alongside Blake Snell.
