Agent of New York Yankees' Slugger Giancarlo Stanton Takes Shot at GM Brian Cashman
On Monday, New York Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman took a shot at his slugger Giancarlo Stanton in the New York Daily News, saying that he's bound to get hurt again in 2024 because that's "part of his game."
On Tuesday, Stanton's agent, Joel Wolfe, took his own shots at Cashman.
As relayed by Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic.'
Giancarlo Stanton’s agent, Joel Wolfe, responds below to Yankees GM Brian Cashman saying of Stanton, “He’s going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game.”
(From Wolfe): I read the context of the entire interview. I think it's a good reminder for all free agents considering signing in New York, both foreign and domestic that to play for that team, you've got to be made of Teflon, both mentally and physically because you can never let your guard down even in the offseason."
Cashman very well may not be wrong. Stanton does get hurt a lot, but taking a shot at among your highest-profile players doesn't seem to be the best way of handling business.
The response from Wolfe generated significant response on social media, which you can see below:
And per Jake Asman of ESPN NY:
Were Cashman's comments about Stanton calculated to try and get Stanton to waive his no trade clause if Yankees found a team to take him (they would have to eat some of the money) or am I giving Cashman too much credit and he's just completely lashing out again?
Stanton hit just .191 in 2023 with 24 homers. He's under contract through 2027.
