Happy Birthday, Mr. October!
What a week this is for Hall of Fame birthdays! Earlier this week, it was Kansas City Royals legend George Brett. Thursday, it's Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, who turns 77 years old.
Born in Pennsylvania, Jackson is one of the most decorated players in baseball history. The Baseball Hall of Fame tweeted out some good vibes for Mr. October.
Five World Series rings and 563 home runs say it all. Happy birthday, Reggie Jackson!
He played 21 years in the major leagues, spending 10 years with the Athletics franchise, five years with the Angels franchise, five years with the Yankees and one year with the Baltimore Orioles.
Jackson is a member of the 500 home run club (563), and was a lifetime .262 hitter. He hit a career-high 47 homers in 1969 and led the league in round-trippers in four different seasons. He also led the league in RBIs in 1973 when he had 117.
Jackson is a five-time World Series champion, a two-time World Series MVP, a 14-time All-Star selection and he won the American League MVP in in 1973 when he led the league in homers, RBIs and runs scored.
He received MVP votes in 13 different seasons. In a statistical oddity, Jackson also is the all-time leader in strikeouts for a career, K'ing 2,597 times.
He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993. He was the only member of the 1993 class. There were four players inducted in 1992 and three in 1994, but Reggie had 1993 all to himself.
