Houston Astros Get Huge Break with Regards to Reliever Bryan Abreu

After being suspended two games for throwing at Texas Rangers' outfielder Adolis Garcia, Houston Astros' reliever Bryan Abreu will serve his suspension in 2024.

As the Houston Astros look to advance to - and win - their second consecutive World Series, they've gotten a huge break.

Reliever Bryan Abreu, who was suspended for two games for throwing at Texas Rangers' outfielder Adolis Garcia during Game 5 of the ALCS, has now had his suspension deferred until 2024. This means he'll be available for Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday night, and would be available for the entirety of the World Series should Houston advance there.

Per the MLB Communications page on social media:

A decision has been rendered by the arbitrator regarding the appeal for Bryan Abreu’s discipline. His two-game suspension has been upheld, and it will be served during the first two games to begin MLB’s 2024 season. #ALCS #Postseason

Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 says Abreu's fine was also reduced.

Source: Any suspension will be pushed back to 2024. Abreu’s fine was reduced to $2500, I’m told.

This is all big news for manager Dusty Baker and the Astros, as Abreu is one of several power arms in the 'Stros bullpen. With all hands on deck for Game 7, Abreu is a great weapon to have.

The 26-year-old native of the Dominican Republic had a great regular season for Houston. He appeared in 72 games, going 3-2 with a 1.75 ERA. He struck out 100 batters in just 72.0 innings and posted a 1.042 WHIP.

He's made 19 appearances in his playoff career and owns a 1.86 ERA.

Game 7 is on Monday night at 8:07 p.m. ET.
