Despite being the second-worst team in baseball this year, Kansas City Royals ownership has given a vote of confidence to general manager J.J. Piccolo and manager Matt Quatraro.

Per Royals reporter Anne Rogers of MLB.com:

(John) Sherman on J.J Picollo and Matt Quatraro: "I have total confidence in them."

The Royals entered play on Thursday at 22-58 this season, which is just barely above the floundering Oakland Athletics.

They are 17.5 games out of first place in the American League Central, which is the worst division in the sport.

The following excerpt comes from the Royals official website:

Picollo officially became the seventh general manager in franchise history on Sept. 12, 2021, and on Sept. 21, 2022, he was promoted to Executive Vice President and General Manager, overseeing baseball operations.

He previously held the title of Vice President/Assistant General Manager, Player Personnel from 2015-21, and served as the Royals’ Assistant General Manager-Scouting & Player Development from 2008-15. Picollo joined Kansas City’s Baseball Operations Department on Aug. 13, 2006 as Director of Player Development.

As for Quatraro, he was hired this offseason after spending 2014-2017 with the Guardians and 2018-2022 with the Rays as an assistant coach. He reached as high as Triple-A as a player in the Devil Rays and Yankees organizations.

At the time of this posting, the Royals and Guardians are tied, 0-0, in the bottom of the third inning.

After this game, the Royals will host the Dodgers for a weekend series at Kauffman Stadium.

First pitch on Friday is 8:10 p.m. ET.
