The biggest story in baseball this year is the future of Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani. The Angels will have to decide if they are holding onto him throughout the duration of the season and letting him hit the open market in the offseason, or if they are going to trade him during the season. ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney thinks that once Ohtani hits the market, the New York Mets will be the team to bid the highest.

The future of Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani is the biggest story in baseball this year. The two-way generational superstar is a free agent at the end of the year and the whole baseball world is wrapped up in what will happen with him.

The Los Angeles Angels, who haven't won a playoff game since 2009, have to wrestle with the decision of what to do with Ohtani. Do they keep him and try to make the playoffs with him and Mike Trout, or do they trade him and try to get something for him before he leaves in free agency?

There's also the question of how much money Ohtani will eventually land in free agency, with some reports suggesting Ohtani could land more than $600 million dollars.

Speaking today on the 'Brady Farkas Show' on WDEV Radio, ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney said he thinks that the New York Mets will be the high-bidder for Ohtani, even ahead of the Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners and other potential suitors. Olney did mention that the San Diego Padres can never be counted out. You can hear Olney's full comments below and can read a portion of them here.

"Let's be clear. The Cubs certainly have the money and the financial flexibility to do it. The Mariners, you assume they would check in and do their due diligence, the Giants, but I really think it's going to come down to a battle between the Dodgers... and the New York Mets, with the richest owner in baseball, Steve Cohen. Their general manager, the one that Steve hired, was the guy that lured Ohtani to Anaheim -- Billy Eppler..."

No matter where Ohtani goes, his decision will continue to be the talk of the baseball world. He's off to another fantastic start for the Angels this year, hitting .300 with three homers and 8 RBI. He's also 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA on the mound this year.

The Angels are 7-5 this season and travel to Boston for a four-game series with the Red Sox beginning tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET.
