After a surprising 83-win season that saw them in the playoff race until late in the season, the Baltimore Orioles enter the 2023 campaign with high expectations.

Though they play in the highly-competitive American League East, the O's should be able to hang tough because of some of the game's most exciting young players.

Adley Rutschman is already among the best catchers in the game and young infielder Gunnar Henderson is rated as the top prospect in the sport by MLB.com.

Henderson made a cameo with the Orioles last season, hitting .259 with four home runs in 34 games.

He should be a big part of what the Orioles do offensively this season, and he has the offensive profile to do it. He hit 19 homers in the minors last year in just 112 games.

The oddsmakers are so high on him that he's listed as the odds-on favorite to win the American League Rookie of the Year award by Draftkings (+235). He's ahead of Red Sox OF Masataka Yoshida (+500).

And the hype doesn't just stop there for Henderson. National baseball writer and ESPN personality Buster Olney told the "Brady Farkas Show" on WDEV Radio that Henderson is his choice for AL Rookie of the Year as well.

Olney joins the show each Thursday at 5:45 but was making a special Wednesday appearance this week.

The Orioles haven't had a rookie of the year since 1989 when Gregg Olson won the award. He was the first reliever to win the AL Rookie of the Year. He had 27 saves that year and went 5-2.

The Orioles open up the season on Thursday at the Red Sox. The first pitch from Fenway Park is slated for 2:10 pm.
