Los Angeles Angels Go Viral For Removing Shohei Ohtani Mural Outside Stadium
The baseball world was rattled to its core on Saturday afternoon with news that superstar Shohei Ohtani was signing a $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It's the richest contract in American professional sports and also vaults the Dodgers into prime World Series winning position in 2024.
But on the other side of the coin, the loss of Ohtani is devastating for the Los Angeles Angels. While the Angels never won anything with Ohtani, it's a major gut punch to a franchise that has the longest playoff drought in baseball. The removal of Ohtani from the roster certainly pushes them even further from contention in the American League.
Sam Blum of 'The Athletic' posted on "X" a viral picture of an Ohtani mural coming down from Angels Stadium.
The Angels appear quick to forget Ohtani and apparently have a desire to move on as fast as possible. Perhaps they should have acted with as much urgency when Ohtani was still there and given him a better roster to play with.
With Ohtani out of the fold, the keys to the franchise go back to future Hall of Famer Mike Trout. Though Trout is getting older and has spent considerable time on the injured list, he's still one of the best players in the game when healthy.
If the Angels want to compete without Ohtani, they'll need Trout to be healthy and dominant once again. The Angels could also several moves on the free agent market to acquire starting pitching.
