Shohei Ohtani Did The Impossible and Made Colin Cowherd Talk About Regular Season Baseball

Longtime Fox Sports Radio host Colin Cowherd famously doesn't talk about regular season baseball, but he made an exception for Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels, saying what we're watching has no comparison.

For my money, Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports Radio is the best sports talk radio host in the country.

Cowherd famously doesn't talk about regular season baseball on his show. He's also said that baseball is too "regional" and that it doesn't get ratings like NFL talk or NBA talk.

He'll make the occasional plug for the Dodgers, since his show is based in Los Angeles, and he'll promote broadcasts that FOX has coming up, but that's generally it.

Enter Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels, who did the impossible on Monday and made Cowherd talk about baseball.

Now, maybe it was because we're at a lull before NFL training camps, but regardless, Cowherd actually did it. He said that Ohtani has no real comparison to anything we've ever seen and that he's the greatest baseball player of his lifetime.

"...Does everybody understand what we're watching here? He leads baseball in all the big power stats, extra-base hits, OPS, RBIs (tied), home runs. He's also 7-3 on the mound. He doesn't really have a comp. You could say 'well Michael Jordan was the best offensive player and defensive player,' but we demand that our NBA players actually play defense..."

This has been the year of Ohtani, and you know that's true if even Cowherd is talking regular season stats. He's got a .390 on-base percentage and is hitting .306 with 31 homers.

He's now a three-time All-Star and led Team Japan to the World Baseball Classic title this spring.

He's got the Angels in playoff contention as well. They are 45-41 and 2.0 games out of a wild card spot.
