Los Angeles Dodgers' James Outman Accomplishes Something Not Done For Team in 17 Years
With a big day on Wednesday, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman accomplished something that hadn't been done by a Dodger since 2006.
By hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Minnesota Twins, Outman became the first Dodgers player to hit two grand slams in the same season that gave the team the lead in the seventh inning or later.
Obscure stat? Yes. Fun stat? Also yes.
The last player to achieve this feat was Nomar Garciaparra back in 2006.
The 26-year-old Outman is off to a fantastic start for the Dodgers, who are in first place in the National League West. He's hitting .264 with nine homers, 27 RBI and five stolen bases, while posting a .903 OPS.
Outman made his debut a season ago, but got just 16 plate appearances, so his adjustment to a full-time role has been quite something. He's given the Dodgers power at the bottom of the lineup and has paired with Mookie Betts to make a formidable outfield duo.
He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 draft by the Dodgers out of Sacramento State.
The Dodgers beat the Twins, 7-3, to move to 28-16 on the season. The loss moved the Twins to 24-20.
Former Twins farmhand Brusdar Graterol got the win in relief for Los Angeles while Jose De Leon got the loss for Minnesota.
The Dodgers will start a new series on Thursday night with the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis.
First pitch is 7:45 p.m. ET.
