Los Angeles Dodgers Doing Something They've Never Done Before in Early Going
The Los Angeles Dodgers stayed hot in the early going on Tuesday, beating the San Francisco Giants, 5-4, at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers, the presumptive World Series favorites, are now 6-2 on the season while the Giants dropped to 2-4.
In the win, Mookie Betts went 2-for-5 with a home run and Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4.
With another strong offensive output, the Dodgers have now done something they've never done before.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
the Dodgers have scored 5+ runs in each of their 1st 8 games of a season for the 1st time since joining NL (1890)
only others to score 5+ in each of 1st 8 gms since 1900:
2004 DET
2004 STL
2002 CLE (10)
1999 CLE (10)
1998 STL
1962 STL
1936 CIN (10)
1932 NYY (13)
1903 PIT (10)
With Betts, Freeman, Shohei Ohtani, Max Muncy, Will Smith, and Teoscar Hernandez, the Dodgers are capable of putting up ridiculous offensive numbers in every single game they play. Four starters in the lineup from Tuesday night are hitting over .300 eight games in.
What's even scarier for the rest of the league is that the Dodgers haven't really gotten going on the pitching front yet. The team is saddled with several pitching injuries in the early going but they should get much better on that front when Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw eventually return.
The Dodgers and Giants will play again on Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET.
Rookie Kyle Harrison (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will pitch for the Giants while Tyler Glasnow (1-0, 2.45 ERA) gets the ball for LA.
