Shohei Ohtani and His Translator Went Viral For Hanging Out at Los Angeles Rams Game
On Thursday morning, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani was named the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year.
On Thursday night, Ohtani and his translator, Ippei Mizuhara, went viral for attending the NFL game in LA between the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints.
Per Greg Beachem of the Associated Press:
A major celebrity beloved on two continents is here at the Rams game tonight, and so is Shohei Ohtani
Fresh off signing the richest contract in American Professional sports, it's a good move for Ohtani to show some face at other Los Angeles events. Though his former team, the Angels, have "Los Angeles" in their name, they actually play in Anaheim, so showing face in LA isn't as valuable.
Now that Ohtani plays for the Dodgers, it makes sense for him to pop up at Rams' games. I'm sure you'll see him at Lakers and Clippers games in the future also.
There had been a rumor that Yoshinobu Yamamoto was going to attend the game with Ohtani, but he was unable to, despite being invited.
With Ohtani in the fold, the Dodgers are among the favorites to win the World Series in 2024. In addition to adding him, the team added Tyler Glasnow via a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. They could also sign Yamamoto.
Los Angeles has made the playoffs in 11 consecutive years but was bounced in the National League Division Series by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The D'Backs went onto the World Series themselves.
