Miami Marlins Reportedly Interested in Bringing Back Slugger on Multi-Year Deal

After opting out of his remaining contract last week, slugger Jorge Soler could still be a fit for the Miami Marlins.

Miami Marlins' slugger Jorge Soler opted out of his remaining contract last week, but could still return to the team.

Reporter Francys Romero had the following on social media:

Around 6 teams are interested in DH/RF Jorge Soler. The Miami Marlins remain very interested in returning Soler with a multi-year contract, per sources.

It's unclear what those other six teams are at this point, but any team in need of offense and/or an outfielder could be in play. The Seattle Mariners certainly could use Soler after losing Teoscar Hernandez this offseason, and the Dodgers could be interested too. Perhaps the Chicago Cubs, if they lose Cody Bellinger, would be a fit.

Soler had a very productive year this year for Miami, who made the playoffs as a wild card team. They were swept in two games by the Philadelphia Phillies, who eventually made the National League Championship Series.

He hit 36 home runs for the Fish, serving as an anchor in the middle of their order. He also hit .250 and drove in 75. The 31-year-old had been due $9 million next season before opting out.

He's a 10-year veteran who has played for the Cubs, Royals, Braves and Marlins. Soler won the World Series in 2015 with the Royals and the Braves in 2021. He made his first All-Star team this past season.

Bringing Soler back into the fold would be huge for a Miami team that has designs of going further in 2024. Josh Bell recently opted-in to his contract for next season, so bringing Soler back would give the team a good power duo.
