The Miami Marlins selected Oregon high school pitching product Noble Meyer with the No. 10 overall selection in the MLB Draft on Sunday night.

He was ranked the No. 8 prospect in the draft by MLB.com. The Marlins are an organization known for developing pitchers, both recently and over the last 20 years. AJ Burnett, Josh Beckett, Carl Pavano, Dontrelle Willis, Eury Perez, Jesus Luzardo and Sandy Alcantara are just a few notable arms to come through the Miami system.

Here's a portion of the draft profile for Meyer from MLB.com:

At 6-foot-5, Meyer certainly looks the part as a projectable high school right-hander. His velocity is tracking upward, frequently touching 97-98 mph over the summer, and while that was in shorter stints, it’s continued this spring as he’s touched triple digits at times during his senior year. It’s easy to dream on more consistent velocity in longer starts as he matures. Meyer backs up that tailing two-seam fastball with a mid-80s power two-plane slider that has good hard bite and spin -- it’s a future strikeout pitch that travels laterally with good depth. He also has good feel for a fading changeup, sold with excellent arm speed.

Meyer comes at hitters with a bit of a three-quarters arm slot, showing good, whippy arm action, and while there is a little crossfire in his delivery, he has a good feel for the strike zone.

His selection follows Paul Skenes (No. 1, Pirates), Dylan Crews (No. 2, Nationals), Max Clark (No. 3, Tigers), Wyatt Langford (No. 4, Rangers), Walker Jenkins (No. 5, Twins), Jacob Wilson (No. 6, A's), Rhett Lowder (No. 7, Reds), Blake Mitchell (No. 8, Royals) and Chase Dollander (No. 9, Rockies).

At the major league level, the Miami Marlins are 53-39 and in second place in the National League East. They are trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
