The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to terms for 2024 with left-handed reliever Hoby Milner, avoiding arbitration.

The 32-year-old Texas native is a massive part of the Brewers bullpen and is under team control through 2025. By coming to an agreement now, the two sides avoid going to court, which is almost always a good thing for both player and team.

He pitched in 73 games last season, going 2-1 with a 1.82 ERA. He struck out 59 batters in 64.1 innings for former manager Craig Counsell.

He also pitched in 67 games during the 2022 season as he continues to show his trustworthiness out of the 'pen. Lifetime, Milner is 5-4 with a 3.53 ERA. He's appeared in 233 games over seven years with the Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels and Brewers.

The Brewers are entering a very interesting season in 2024. They won the National League Central in 2023 but saw Counsell depart to go manage the division-rival Cubs. So, they have a new manager in Pat Murphy, and they have questions in the starting rotation: Brandon Woodruff was injured and then subsequently non-tendered.

There are also constant questions about the trade availability of former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes and shortstop Willy Adames, which make the situation tenuous.

On top of that, the Cubs have poached Counsell and signed pitcher Shoto Imanaga, the Reds boast a hugely talented young team, and the Cardinals have totally re-worked their pitching staff, making the division much more challenging to win.
