Minnesota Twins' Byron Buxton Does Something Not Done in Baseball For a Decade With Two Massive Home Runs
At the time of this posting, the Minnesota Twins are leading the Boston Red Sox, 6-0, in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The story of this game has been the power surge of Twins designated hitter Byron Buxton, who has joined an elite group in baseball history with two massive home runs.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Byron Buxton is the first player to hit multiple 460-foot home runs in a single game since Mike Napoli last did it on May 1, 2013.
Buxton's first home run came off of Justin Garza and was ripped to left field while his second homer came off Brandon Walter and was pummeled out to center field.
Buxton is hitting just .216 this season but has turned it on of late, recording three home runs in his last seven games.
He's now got 13 homers, 27 RBI and six stolen bases this season.
He was a first-round pick of the Twins back in 2012 and made his debut at the age of 21 in the 2015 season. He is an All-Star and has won a Gold Glove award for his work in the outfield. He signed a seven-year, $100 million deal before the 2022 season and has been relegated to only DH work this year because of ongoing knee issues.
He's a career .241 hitter with 111 homers and 282 RBI.
If the Twins win this game, they'll move to 38-38 on the season and will remain in first place in the American League Central. They'll start a new series with the Tigers on Friday night.
