Carlos Correa Headlines Trio of Gold Glove Finalists for Minnesota Twins
Three Minnesota Twins (Carlos Correa, Sonny Gray, and Pablo Lopez) were named as finalists on Wednesday for the Gold Glove Awards that will be announced on November 5th.
You can check out the full list of finalists here. There are three finalists per position.
While the Twins were not able to complete their ultimate goal of winning the World Series, falling to the Astros in the ALDS, it is still impressive to see multiple players nominated for postseason awards.
Per an MLB release, here's how the process works:
To determine the winners at the nine standard positions, the 30 MLB managers and up to six coaches from each team vote from a pool of players in their league, excluding players from their own team. These votes comprise 75% of the selection total, with the SABR Defensive Index counting for the other 25%.
For the utility position, Rawlings collaborated with SABR to create a specialized defensive formula separate from the traditional selection process.
The 29-year-old Correa re-signed with the Twins last offseason and is looking for his second Gold Glove. He won one in 2021 with the Astros. It's impressive to see him finish as a finalist given he battled a foot injury most of the year, even landing on the injured list near the end of the season.
Gray, in his 11th year in the majors, has never won a Gold Glove award. He'll be a free agent at the conclusion of the World Series and his free agency will be one of the most-watched in all of baseball.
Lopez has never been named a Gold Glove winner either but did make the All-Star team this season. He finished 11-8 with a 3.33 ERA.
