Minnesota Twins Reportedly Getting Trade Interest in Starting Pitchers
The Minnesota Twins, in first place in the American League Central, are reportedly getting interest ahead of the trade deadline in their starting pitchers.
Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic' had this blurb as part of a much larger story ahead of the deadline.
As for the Twins’ rotation, it’s difficult to imagine how a trade of say, Sonny Gray, would make them better. But the interest in their starters appears to stem from the lack of quality pitching available, and teams trying to conjure exchanges of major leaguers to fill the void. The Twins made a lesser move of that type Wednesday, sending reliever Jorge López to the Marlins for reliever Dylan Floro.
The Twins do have several starting pitchers in the organization. They feature a full five-man rotation with Gray, Kenta Maeda, Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez and Bailey Ober. They also have Chris Paddack in the organization who is recovering from Tommy John.
Teams around the deadline are obviously looking for starting pitching and teams like the Red Sox and Mariners could certainly benefit from it, but with the Twins in first place, it seems hard to imagine them selling off a starter.
Minnesota enters play on Friday at 54-50 and winners of six of their last 10 games. They lead the Cleveland Guardians by 1.5 games.
The Twins will take on the Kansas City Royals on Friday night at 8:10 p.m. ET. Gray pitches against Royals righty Brady Singer.
Gray is 4-4 with a 3.15 ERA while Singer is 6-8 with a 5.55 ERA.
