MLB Insider Says He Thinks Shohei Ohtani Won't Be Traded If This Happens...
With less than two weeks remaining until the Major League Baseball trade deadline, the biggest question in the sport is "Will Shohei Ohtani be traded?"
The Los Angeles Angels star is headed for free agency at the end of the year and with the Halos not currently in a great position in relation to the playoffs, the thought is that they could trade the generational talent to avoid seeing him leave in free agency for nothing.
Jon Morosi of the MLB Network put out a tweet on Friday morning that discusses what he's hearing it would take to see Ohtani stay in Los Angeles through the trade deadline:
As Shohei Ohtani prepares to pitch tonight, a look at the AL Wild Card standings. Based on what sources tell me, if the Angels can pass by the Yankees and Red Sox before August 1, I expect Ohtani to finish the year in an Angels uniform. @MLBNetwork @MLB
The Angels enter play on Friday one game behind the Yankees and two games behind Boston. So if they can make up that ground in the next 10 days, Morosi expects to see Ohtani remain with the Angels for the chase.
Los Angeles hasn't been to the playoffs since 2014.
As for Ohtani, he's been among the best players in baseball this season and is likely headed for his second American League MVP award.
He's hitting .306 this season with a .397 on-base percentage. He has 35 home runs and 76 RBI.
On the mound, he's 7-5 and has struck out 139 batters in 105.1 innings.
