We are just over a month away from the MLB Trade Deadline and the Texas Rangers are reportedly going to work on trying to better their team.

The Rangers, looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016, have already called the Pittsburgh Pirates about a potential deal, per MLB Network Insider Jon Morosi.

Morosi put the following on Twitter on Monday:

Confirming: The Rangers have broached the possibility of acquiring Andrew McCutchen, but the Pirates are not prepared to move yet.

The deal would have particular interest to Texas if at least one pitcher is part of the deal, as well.

While the Pirates are in a tailspin and currently sit at 35-42, they are just 5.5 games out of first place in the National League Central. It's understandable that they don't want to sell just yet so they can see if they can turn it around, but it's also understandable that they would be listening to offers as well.

McCutchen is hitting .271 this season with nine homers and 24 RBI. It's been a a nice reunion year for McCutchen who last played in Pittsburgh in 2017 before this year.

He's in his 15th year in the big leagues with the Pirates, Giants, Yankees, Brewers and Phillies. He's a lifetime .277 hitter who has 296 career homers and 2,009 hits. He is a Gold Glove winner, a four-time Silver Slugger, a five-time All-Star selection and won the National League MVP award in 2013.

The Pirates are off Monday but will host the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night at PNC Park.
