New York Mets Get Injury Update on Pitcher Carlos Carrasco
The New York Mets, already facing murkiness in their starting rotation due to the injury to Justin Verlander, and the looming possible suspension of Max Scherzer, got more questionable news on Thursday.
Pitcher Carlos Carrasco, who was placed on the injured list earlier this week, has been diagnosed with a bone spur in his right elbow. Manager Buck Showalter tells reporters that Carrasco will get an injection that will allow him to pitch in two weeks, but how effective that will be is not known at this time.
Carrasco will be shut down for three-to-five days and then re-evaluated.
The veteran righty is off to a tough start this year for New York, posting an 0-2 record with an 8.56 ERA.
That said, he's had a very nice career to this point. He's in his 15th year in the major leagues and has posted a 104-87 record and owns a lifetime 3.92 ERA.
He spent the first 12 years of his career with the Cleveland organization and established himself as one of the premiere arms in the American League, earning Cy Young votes in 2015 and 2017.
He paired with current Red Sox pitcher Corey Kluber as well to form one of the best duos in baseball. He also helped Cleveland get to the playoffs in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
He was traded to the Mets from Cleveland in the Francisco Lindor trade, which occurred before the 2021 season.
