OK, I'm about as sappy as it gets as a sports fan, and even I think this is absurd.

The New York Yankees gave Aaron Hicks a tribute video when he returned to Yankee Stadium on Monday as a member of the Baltimore Orioles.

Again, I'm all for an emotional reaction and I tear up at most of them, but this is one is ridiculous.

While Hicks did spent part of eight years in New York and does have longevity with the organization, he didn't do anything that warrants a tribute video.

In those eight seasons, the outfielder hit .232. He hit under .200 in four seasons and was under .200 before being designated for assignment this year. He never made an All-Star team, didn't lead the Yankees to even a World Series appearance and once finished 22nd in MVP voting.

Just because someone has played for a team for a while doesn't mean he deserves a tribute video. Fans weren't having it either, as they boo'd the big screen when the video was done. You can watch it below:

Give Hicks some credit. He has turned it around in Baltimore, hitting .263 with a .379 on-base percentage (entering play on Monday) for the O's. He also has four homers and 12 RBI.

At the time of this posting, the Orioles lead the Yanks, 3-0, in the bottom of the third inning. Baltimore entered play at 49-33 and New York was 46-38.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. ET.
