Oakland Athletics broadcaster Glen Kuiper has been fired by NBC Sports California for using a racial slur on air earlier in May.

On May 5 in Kansas City, Kuiper used a racial slur instead of the word "Negro" when describing a trip to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

He had been suspended pending a review of the incident. That review is clearly complete, ending in Kuiper's termination.

You can see video of the incident here, but be aware, the video is unedited and could be understandably hurtful to some.

Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick issued a statement after the incident as well, urging forgiveness and empathy.

"I'm aware of the unfortunate slur made by Glen Kuiper. I welcomed Glen to the NLBM yesterday and know he was genuinely excited to be here. The word is painful and has no place in our society. And while I don't pretend to know Glen's heart, I do know that my heart is one of forgiveness. I hope all of you will find it in yourselves to do the same."

According to Barrett Sports Media, an industry leader in covering sports media, Kuiper has been calling games for the station since 2004. The site adds the following:

Over the years, he was on the call for a variety of memorable moments, including his partner Dallas Braden’s perfect game in 2010. Now, Braden will continue working with the team with play-by-play announcers Vince Controneo and Johnny Doskow as the team looks for his permanent replacement.

The Athletics open up a series in Seattle tonight at 9:40 p.m. ET.
