Philadelphia Phillies' Kyle Schwarber is Dominating the Month of June Again
Reggie Jackson is "Mr. October" while Derek Jeter earned the moniker of "Mr. November."
Let's just call Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber "Mr. June."
After a dreadful May in which he hit just .115, Schwarber is hitting .234 and leading the majors in homers so far this month. That's a trend that has happened each of the last three years for Schwarber.
Per ESPN Stats & Info on Twitter:
June might be Kyle Schwarber's month...
In 2021 he hit 16 HR in June, the most in MLB. In 2022 he hit 12, which was the most in MLB.
He enters the day with 5 HR already this month, which is tied for the most in MLB.
The Phillies could certainly use this version of Schwarber as well, as they enter play on Wednesday at 33-34 and in third place in the National League East. They are 8-2 in their last 10 though, and have moved within 7.5 games of the first-place Atlanta Braves.
The Phillies got to the World Series last year, losing to the Astros, and then spent heavily on Trea Turner, Taijuan Walker and Craig Kimbrel with the goal of winning the title this year.
He's now hitting .177 with 18 home runs and 36 RBI on the year.
The nine-year veteran is in his second year with the Phillies after also playing for the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox.
He helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series and is a two-time All-Star selection.
The Phillies play the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday at 9:40 p.m. ET.
