Nick Castellanos of the Philadelphia Phillies Goes Viral For Terse Postgame Interview
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 3-1 on Thursday night to advance back to the National League Championship Series for the second straight year.
Nick Castellanos was certainly the hero in the win, blasting two home runs off Braves' ace Spencer Strider. It was his second consecutive multi-home run game, making him the first player in playoff baseball history to do that.
But when the game was over, Castellanos made even more news, this time because of an awkward and terse interview with Matt Winer of Turner Sports.
Awful Announcing had more information on social media:
“Nick, nobody in Major League history has hit 2 home runs on back-to-back postseason games, but you just did. And you guys are headed to the NLCS,” Winer said.
After a momentary pause, Castellanos asked “Where’s the question in that?”
“There’s no question,” Winer replied.
“Thank you for telling me,” Castellanos said.
“I thought you’d be happy with that,” said Winer.
The site said that after that moment, the interview continued without any awkwardness, but I disagree. Castellanos was very short throughout the interview, forcing Winer to ask several questions inside about a 2-minute window.
Maybe Castellanos was just in the zone after having played an intense game, but it certainly wasn't the kind of jubilation you'd expect in a series-clinching celebration.
The 31-year-old Castellanos is hitting .391 this offseason with four homers and five RBI. Lifetime, he's a .231 postseason hitter.
This regular season, he hit .272 with 29 homers and 106 RBI. He's in his 11th major league season with the Tigers, Cubs, Reds and Phillies.
