We all gawk all over those videos whenever a minor leaguer learns they are being called up to the big leagues, but we almost never get to see the reverse: The players giving great news to their manager.

That's what we saw on Thursday in an awesome video that the Pittsburgh Pirates put out. Pirates players, led by Andrew McCutchen, gave manager Derek Shelton some surprises when it was revealed that Shelton would be coaching in the All-Star Game for the National League.

McCutchen gave him a gift that appeared to be signed by the entire team and then gave him an official All-Star Game duffle bag, in which McCutchen said was to be brought back full of gifts for the team.

Shelton was very appreciative of the gesture and said that he was very excited to coach in the game, and that he's been friends with Phillies manager Rob Thomson for a long time and was excited to work with him.

Though the Pirates are currently out of the playoff picture, they are finding a way to have some fun in this bounceback year. The team beat the San Diego Padres on Thursday, 5-4, to move to 38-42 on the season.

At the time of this posting, the 'Bucs are 4.5 games back of the first-place Cincinnati Reds  in the National League Central.

They will host the Milwaukee Brewers for a big divisional matchup beginning Friday night.

First pitch from PNC Park is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
