Rapper Kid Cudi Hilariously Botches First Pitch Before Guardians-Orioles Game
Kid Cudi showed up to Progressive Field in a full Cleveland Guardians uniform on Friday, but that didn't help him with his ceremonial first pitch.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper represented his hometown team prior to their contest against the Baltimore Orioles, holding down the starring role in the pregame festivities. Cudi, wearing classic Jordan 1s, went into a full windup, but his first pitch didn't even make it to the dirt.
Instead, he spiked the ball and pulled it wide left, far past the reach of pitcher Lucas Giolito behind the plate. The Guardians' mascot, Slider, made fun of Cudi as he chased down the wild pitch.
Cudi immediately turned around and threw his arms up in disgust, but he returned to the rubber for a little celebratory dance regardless.
It wasn't quite as bad as 50 Cent's infamous botched first pitch before a New York Mets game in 2014, but the pitch did put Cudi in the company of several other celebrities who put forth embarrassing performances on the mound. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith actually had one of his own before a New York Yankees game earlier in the week, and he thanked Cudi for diverting some of the attention away from him with his errant pitch Friday.
Cudi's Guardians went on to beat the Orioles 9-8, but they were mathematically eliminated from MLB postseason contention anyways due to results across the result of the league.
