David Ortiz Trolls Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez For Blowing 2004 ALCS on FOX Postgame Show

Nearly 20 years after the Boston Red Sox came back from down 3-0 to beat the New York Yankees in the ALCS, David Ortiz is still holding it over his FOX co-hosts.

It has been 19 years since the Boston Red Sox came back from down 3-0 in the 2004 ALCS to beat the New York Yankees, but David Ortiz still isn't ready to let his opponents live it down just yet.

Ortiz has been one of the panelists for FOX Sports' MLB coverage throughout the postseason, joined by former Yankees Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez. With the Texas Rangers going up 2-0 on the Houston Astros in the ALCS on Monday night, the Red Sox's historic comeback naturally came up as a topic of conversation on the postgame show.

"Look, just because they're down two games, it's not over," Jeter said. "We lost a series being up 3-0. I don't want to bring it up, but we lost a series being up three."

Ortiz, living up to his reputation as a jokester and troublemaker, interrupted Jeter.

"You did?" he asked before breaking out into laughter.

Rodriguez laughed as well, while Jeter tried to get the conversation back on the rails.

Ortiz went 12-for-31 with three home runs and 11 RBI in the 2004 ALCS, riding an 1.199 OPS to series MVP honors. The designated hitter and eventual Hall of Famer delivered walk-offs in Games 4 and 5 to lift his club to the first and only 3-0 comeback in baseball history. Ortiz capitalized by helping the Red Sox capture their first World Series in 86 years later that October.

Jeter, who already had four rings of his own to that point, would go on to win just one more. The Yankees' 2009 World Series victory – which Rodriguez was also a part of – is their only one in the last 24 years, which is their fewest in a span of that length in franchise history.

The Red Sox, on the other hand, have won four World Series in the last 20 years.

Neither Boston nor New York made the postseason in 2023, though, as both teams will go back to the drawing board this winter.

Ortiz, Jeter and Rodriguez will return to work Wednesday prior to Game 3 of the ALCS. First pitch from Arlington, Texas, is scheduled for 8:03 p.m. ET.
