San Diego Padres Had to Wear 2023 Pants Because 2024 Uniforms Are So Unacceptable
The San Diego Padres opened up their spring training slate on Thursday with a lopsided loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While the loss itself offered plenty of talking points, perhaps the biggest talking point came from what the team was wearing - or not wearing.
Per Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net on social media:
According to the Associated Press, the San Diego Padres wore last year's pants for their Spring Training opener yesterday. The Padres are still waiting to get their new 2024 pants back after they made requests for alterations to have them fit players better.
Major League Baseball's new uniforms through Fanatics have been almost universally panned. The pants specifically have been ripped for not fitting properly and for being too see-through. Even Players Association leader Tony Clark had comments on the poor quality of the uniforms recently.
We will see if the quality of the uniforms is resolved by Opening Day, which is just over a month away for most teams (the Dodgers and Padres play in Korea on March 20 and 21).
As for the game itself, the Padres lost 14-1. Starting pitcher Joe Musgrove failed to make it out of the first inning and Jake Cronenworth delivered a home run.
San Diego finished the 2023 season in third place in the National League West and has experienced a ton of turnover this offseason. In addition to replacing manager Bob Melvin with Mike Shildt, the team has seen Josh Hader, Blake Snell, Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo all exit the roster.
