San Francisco Giants' Rookie Joins Special Club in Team History with Birthday Heroics
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey made sure his 24th birthday was a memorable one on Monday.
The rookie backstop went 3-5 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBI. He hit his second career home run.
In the midst of his big day, Bailey made some fun team history.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Patrick Bailey’s 4 RBI are tied for the most by a Giants player in a game on his birthday (RBI official since 1920), with:
8/30/15 Marlon Byrd
9/6/37 2nd game of DH Harry Danning
Pretty impressive accomplishments for Bailey, who has only played in nine major league games.
This isn't the first time that Bailey has been featured on Fastball and FanNation. Earlier in May, his family went viral during his major league debut, and they went viral again when he got his first hit.
He is the organization's No. 11 ranked prospect and was a first-round pick in 2020.
Here's more from his MLB.com prospect profile:
A switch-hitter, Bailey make more consistent and higher quality contact from the left side of the plate, and the Giants believe he'll be productive enough to at least form the strong side of a platoon. He may never hit for a high average but has the strength and the ability to launch balls to his pull side to provide average power against right-handers. He draws a healthy amount of walks and San Francisco hopes he'll improve vs. left-handers as he gets more at-bats against them.
Though he shows little speed on the bases, Bailey moves well for a catcher and is agile behind the plate. He's a quality receiver and blocker who frames pitches well, though that skill may mean less with an automated strike zone. His solid-to-plus arm strength enabled him to throw out 31 percent of base stealers in his first two years as a pro, and he also stands out with his game-calling and leadership skills.
He's currently hitting .355 with two homers and 11 RBI.
The Giants beat the Pirates, 14-4, on Monday.
Happy birthday, kid!
