San Francisco Giants Make Workload-Related Decision with Top Starting Pitcher
The San Francisco Giants are making a workload-related decision ahead of the second half of the season with top starting pitcher Logan Webb.
The Giants will push Webb back and not have him start in the first series of the second half.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Webb will not be among the Giants' starter during their first series of the second half in Pittsburgh, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb leads all of baseball in innings pitched, so the team will give him a little extra rest around the All-Star break. Presumably, he'll make his second-half debut early next week in Cincinnati. Ross Stripling and Alex Cobb will get two of the starts this weekend versus the Pirates, with the Giants' third starter not yet determined.
The 26-year-old Webb has thrown 126.0 innings thus far, working into the seventh inning or later in four of his last five starts. He's 8-7 this season with a 3.14 ERA.
Armed with a good slider and a great sinker, he's 39-26 in his career with a 3.40 ERA. He's appeared in 99 career games, 96 of which have been as a starter.
He also inked a new five-year extension this spring which kicks in next season.
As the Giants start the second half of the season, they'll do so in third place in the National League West. They are 49-41 and 2.5 games behind the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. They do currently hold the third and final wild card spot in the NL.
