Seattle Mariners' Bryce Miller Continues to Make Baseball History to Start His Career
The Seattle Mariners lost on Friday night to the Atlanta Braves, 6-2, but starting pitcher Bryce Miller continues to do his part, making history seemingly each time he takes the mound.
Sarah Langs of MLB.com has the stat of the night:
Bryce Miller is the 2nd pitcher since at least 1901 to go 6+ IP and allow 4 hits or fewer in each of his first 4 career appearances, joining: 1970 Wayne Simpson
Any time you are the second player in more than 120 years to do something, that's certainly noteworthy.
Miller went 6.1 innings in the loss and fell to 2-1 on the season. He surrendered just four hits and was charged with three earned runs. He had one walk and four strikeouts.
His ERA is currently 1.42. This outing showed a lot of character for Miller, who gave up a run just two batters into the game and then was able to settle down and not allow any runs until the seventh inning. That's good growth for a young player.
Though the Mariners lost, Miller has been a huge factor in the rotation staying together in the wake of Robbie Ray's season-ending injury.
The Texas native was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 draft out of Texas A&M.
The loss dropped the Mariners to 21-23 and they've now lost three straight games. The two teams will play again on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET. That game will be nationally televised on Fox.
Logan Gilbert will pitch against Jesse Chavez.
