Seattle Mariners' Catcher Gives Optimistic Answer When Asked About Possible Contract Extension

Speaking to a Seattle radio station on Tuesday, Seattle Mariners' catcher Cal Raleigh gave an optimistic answer about his possibility of signing a contract extension with the organization.

Speaking to Seattle sports radio station KJR on Tuesday morning, Seattle Mariners' catcher Cal Raleigh gave an optimistic answer about his possibilities of signing a contract extension with the organization.

Per the station's "X" account:

"Having that dream of coming up & getting to play for one team your entire career is something that's real & you don't see a lot of guys do that. When you look at guys like Dan Wilson, he's a Mariner for life & that's a special thing. I would very much love that & obviously some of that's out of my control. We'll see what the future holds."

Now, Raleigh is under contract through 2027 so none of this is terribly urgent, but given that Raleigh is represented by Scott Boras, the closer he gets to free agency, the more likely he is to actually test it.

The 27-year-old catcher is the best power-hitting catcher in the sport, having popped 27 and 30 home runs in the last two years, respectively. He also manages a staff extremely well, and is one of the reasons why Seattle has among the best starting rotations in the entire sport.

JT Realmuto of the Phillies previously signed a five-year, $115 million deal with the Phillies, so perhaps that's a good place to start when it comes to a possible Raleigh extension.

The Mariners went 88-74 in 2023 and missed the playoffs by 1.0 game. If they are going to make the playoffs in 2024, Raleigh will be a humungous part of it.
