Seattle Mariners Hosed By Umpires Awful Call vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Seattle Mariners had a potential go-ahead rally halted on Saturday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles when Eugenio Suarez was punched out on strikes in an awful call by the home plate umpire.
You can see the photo of where the ball ended below:
In the top of the sixth inning of a 3-3 game, Suarez was up with Jarred Kelenic on second base. That pitch should have been called ball four to set up a two-on, two-out situation but instead it ended the inning.
Immediately following that gaffe, the Orioles hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and currently lead 4-3 at the time of this posting.
Now, I am not a "the umpires are the reason we lost" guy. The Mariners had chances on the mound and at the plate to have a lead already, but that call will loom large if Seattle goes on to lose this game.
As the Mariners try to maintain a chance at the playoffs, every series is critical and they can't afford to lose this one. Seattle won game one of the series on Friday night, but a win on Saturday would assure the M's the series win and at least a .500 road trip.
A win would also move the M's over .500 again as they entered play at 37-37.
Let's hope that call doesn't come back to be one of the biggest factors in the game's outcome.
The series wraps up on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. ET as George Kirby (6-6, 3.29 ERA) pitches against Kyle Bradish (3-3, 3.86 ERA).
