Is 'Country Roads' by John Denver the new anthem of the Seattle Mariners?

It just might be as Mariners fans went viral on social media for belting out the classic on Monday during a win against the Washington Nationals.

One Mariners fan in attendance posted the scene on Twitter:

While that was after the game, the M's fans also sang the song throughout the game. Why? We're not exactly sure. The song is used by Jarred Kelenic as his walk-up music but why it resonated in other situations? Your guess is as good as mine.

But hey, the Mariners have a had a tough season, falling way short of expectations right now, so any good vibes are appreciated by the fanbase.

Mariners Twitter account @MarinerMuse believes this game could represent a turning point.

I’m trying not to overreact but this feels like a bolt of lightning into the season. This team and the fans needed something, ANYTHING, to cling onto and this might be it.

The Mariners won the game, 8-4, to move to 38-39 on the season. It's been a frustrating battle with the .500 mark for the last several weeks for the M's. They've gotten there, only to fall back. The Mariners got home runs from JP Crawford and Eugenio Suarez in the win, while also getting offensive contributions from Julio Rodriguez (3-4, RBI), Mike Ford (2-4, RBI) and several others.

The Mariners will play the Nationals again on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET as Bryan Woo pitches for Seattle.
