Seattle Mariners Star in Attendance at Huge Washington-Oregon College Football Game
Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez made his presence felt in Seattle on Saturday, attending the highly-anticipated Washington and Oregon football game at Husky Stadium.
Oregon entered the game at No. 8 nationally while Washington was No. 7.
For Rodriguez, it was his first college football game and he posted about it on social media.
My first college football game @UW_Football do I still have eligibility? #GoHuskies
In addition to the post from Rodriguez, the Washington Football "X" account also posted about his attendance:
This video also included Huskies' head coach Kalen DeBoer telling Rodriguez that he loves to watch him play.
Part of the reason why Rodriguez is so popular among Mariners fans is because he really takes pride in becoming part of the community. While most players take off from cities the moment the season ends, Rodriguez spends a lot of time in Seattle and is constantly out and about. That's what faces of the franchise do, and Rodriguez does it well.
The 22-year-old Rodriguez is coming off a stellar second season in the majors. After winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2022, he hit .275 for Seattle in 654 at-bats. He popped 32 home runs and brought in 103 runs, while also stealing 37 bases.
Most prognosticators believe that Angels' star Shohei Ohtani will win the MVP award in the American League, but it's fair to assume that Rodriguez will finish in the Top-5. He may finish in the Top-3 alongside Texas Rangers' shortstop Corey Seager.
The Mariners finished 88-74 and missed the playoffs by one game.
