Seattle Mariners' Julio Rodriguez Wins Weekly Award
As Julio Rodriguez has heated up, so have the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners went 6-1 last week after sweeping the Oakland Athletics and taking two of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Rodriguez was a big reason why.
He was so good, in fact, that he won the American League Player of the Week award, which was announced on Tuesday.
From the Mariners and MLB:
Rodríguez, 22, batted .467 (14x30) with 6 runs, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI, 1 hit-by-pitch and 1 stolen base, while reaching base at a .484 clip and slugging .800 with a 1.284 OPS during the week. Rodríguez recorded multiple hits in 6 of 7 games during the week, while leading American League hitters (min. 20 PA) in batting average (.467), total bases (24) and extra-base hits (6). The 2022 Rookie of the Year also ranked T1st in hits (14), T1st in doubles (4) and T2nd in RBI (7) during the week.
Rodriguez currently holds an active 8-game hitting streak (5/22-c), batting .471 (16x34) with 7 runs, 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 10 RBI, 1 hit-by-pitch and 1 stolen base, while reaching base at a .486 clip and slugging .853 with a 1.339 OPS during that span. During the streak, he recorded multiple hits in 7 of 8 games, including each of his last 6 games. He also has an extra-base hit in 7 of 8 games during that span, including home runs in each of his last 2 games (May 28- 29).
This is the second time in his career that Rodríguez has been named AL Player of the Week. He also received honor for the week of June 27 — July 3, 2022 when he slashed .360/.393/.880 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI.
The Mariners are currently 28-26 after losing to the Yankees on Monday night.
Rodriguez hit a home run in that game and the two teams will play on Tuesday at 10:10 p.m. ET.
